The Rotary Club of Khammam established the Rotary Artificial Limb Centre with the initiative of Rtn. John Saxton sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kingston Upon Thames, England with a matching grant from The Rotary International in the year 1992. A Trust by name The Rotary Trust, Khammam was formed to run this centre.
The Rotary Artificial Limb ( Jaipur Limbs ) Centre has been rendering services to the community at large since June, 1992 in the N.S.P. Camp. The project is unique of its kind in the whole of South India. Government provided the club with necessary building premises for the Artificial Limb Centre on a rental basis.
There are trained technicians, necessary machinery and equipment in the Centre to manufacture artificial limbs ( Below-Knee and Above-Knee ) following Jaipur Technology designed by well-trained technicians. The raw material needed for making these limbs is being purchased from the Bhagavan Mahaveer Vikalaang Sahay Samithi, Jaipur. This kind service has been made available to needy poor handicapped for FREE of cost. The cost of production of Above-Knee is Rs. 1,500/- ( US $35 ) and that of Below-Knee is Rs. 800/- ( US $20 ).
